What to Expect

The goal of the first office visit is primarily information gathering. Your doctor will review your intake forms and begin to understand your symptoms, their onset, and how they are influencing your health. Your doctor may record vitals and/or perform a targeted physical examination based on your symptoms. He/she will request medical records from previous practitioners and determine what vital information is missing in order to reconstruct a complete picture of your health. You will leave your first appointment with a treatment plan that may include modifications of diet and/or lifestyle, supplement prescriptions, changes to medication or existing prescriptions, orders for laboratory testing, and a schedule for follow-up visits, if appropriate. Usually follow-up visits in the office occur approximately two weeks after the first office visit to discuss the results of newly requested laboratory tests and to refine your individual treatment plan.
